Explaining: the Trump & Kim Jong Un meeting

Yeah, yeah, I know you probably have read all about this as it’s been in the news all across the world but I thought, let’s make a summary out of it and hopefully you learn something from this.

Trump & Kim Jong Un are the leaders of two huge countries, the United States and North-Korea. 6 months ago they were calling each other out but now they seemed to be ‘friends’. The meeting took place in Singapore on June 12th where they talked behind closed doors.

What did they discuss?

  1. The denuclearization of the peninsula that belongs to North-Korea. This means that North-Korea will have less nucleair weapons and that North Korea is less dangerous for the US, South-Korea and the rest of the world.
  2. The United States will stop practicing militaristic exercises with South-Korea.
  3. Surplus remains of American soldiers will be brought back to the US.
  4. The US and North-Korea will continue having constant and clear contact.

I hope that this short summary clears the air a little bit for you.

This meeting was the first one between the two countries. It wasn’t expected that there would be much talk about the human rights and the horrifying way Kim Jong Un treats his citizens and the expectations were correct. Trump said he had a brief conversation about it but that he thinks ‘Kim Jong Un loves his people’.

What do you think about this meeting? Let me know in the comments and if you have any questions, just ask and I’ll reply as soon as I can!
