I love reading. But in this busy life I do not always have enough time for it. That is why I read in bed, 10 minutes before I drift off to the next fantasy world. But there are a couple books which keep me reading past those 10 minutes. Some books are so well written or with such a great storyline that I cannot help but read more and more….. Now I haven’t read all the books existing, but here 5 books that have definitely conquered my heart, and will conquer yours too!
But… before we start, here is a little ‘fun’ fact about reading that will blow your mind:
One in four American adults haven’t read a book the past 12 months.
Yes you read that correctly. 25% of the adults haven’t touched a book and actually read it. So, to start this day off the right way and read further for my favorite books!
Hopeless – Colleen Hoover
Talking about traumas isn’t a subject often written about in books, but Hoover handles it perfectly in Hopeless. Mixed with the lesson that love can heal and love can break, this book opens up about traumas, recovery and past heartbreaks. But this love story is nothing like the clichés. Reading this, my heart broke while reading the last 100 pages but I could not stop reading it, though. Plot twists are a powerful move in books and Hopeless proves that again, as well. If you want to read a piece of art which is heartbreaking but powerful as well, this book is a must. And if you want to find out more about the book, read my review on Hopeless by Colleen Hoover and find out the story + my extended opinion.
To Kill A Mockingbird – Harper Lee
An old classic, but a classic actually worth reading. Plus, this book is still relevant, even after 50 years of being sold. It describes the situation of equality then and now and how it used to be between colored and white people while describing a gripping and funny story. Harper Lee writes about three friends and a father whose a lawyer defending a colored man who is accused of raping a white girl. Besides it being relevant and gripping, a big part of the book is nerve-wrecking and will leave you questioning every time you have to quit reading. A must read that will stay with you for a long time.
Counting by 7’s – Holly Goldberg Sloan
An extraordinary girl who faces a heavy chance in her life and struggles to adjust to it. Life lessons are given away for free in this book (well the actual book is probably not free but let’s pretend) and you will look at your friends & family different than you did before. The lovely thing about Counting by 7’s is that you can empathize with Willow (the leading role) and the story could ‘easily’ be real life (besides Willow being a genius who is a 12 year old who knows more than I will ever know, but play along). It is easy to read through it but it also leaves you thinking. It inspires you to love other & yourself, but displayed with an amazing storyline.
We were liars – E. Lockhart
This book is mind blowing. A rich and wealthy family on vacation annually. It sounds perfect, doesn’t it? Well guess what, it is not. This telling story describing a picture perfect family on stage. But once the curtain drops, the truth is revealed…. And it is a truth that easily relates to this century. But the part that I absolutely loved and that blew me apart cannot be talked about here, if you haven’t read it yet. That’s why you should read it yourself. Not trying to force anything on you, but this is an amazing well-written and beautiful book you cannot skip!
The Fault In Our Stars – John Green
This book is a classic and probably a well known one to many. But besides it being a classic, reading this book before I’d seen the movie, I loved every single page. John Green’s way of writing is so perfect for this classic storyline about Hazel, who is terminally ill, and August, a cancer survivor, who meet up and become ‘friends’. The emotions are sensitive throughout the entire book and the plot twist made me ugly cry. Definitely worth reading and very hard to forget.
These 5 books are absolutely worth reading and you should give them a shot once you’re ready for it. I cannot, obviously, guarantee that you will love all of them as much as I did, considering this is my opinion, but if you love a good piece of art with emotions, these 5 books will be worth it. Hopefully you’ve been inspired to read more often because reading has so many benefits, including stress-relief and learning more.
